Women's Group Savings and Loans Programme

Empowering Women Through Financial Inclusion

Since 2014, Tumaini La Maisha Kenya has been implementing the Women's Group Savings and Loans Programme, a community-based microfinance initiative that promotes financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods for women.

The programme primarily supports women with limited or no source of income, single mothers, widows, and women rebuilding their lives after experiencing domestic violence. Through community savings groups, affordable micro-loans, financial literacy training, entrepreneurship support, and business mentorship, women gain the skills and resources needed to become financially independent and improve the well-being of their families.

How it works

Members save regularly, access loans to establish or expand small businesses, and receive training in budgeting, business management, leadership, and group governance. Many women have invested in retail businesses, farming, poultry keeping, tailoring, food vending, beauty services, and other income-generating ventures.

The impact

The programme has enabled women to build sustainable livelihoods, increase household income, pay school fees for their children, provide food and healthcare for their families, and reduce financial dependence. Beyond economic empowerment, it has restored confidence, strengthened community support networks, and helped many women rebuild their lives with dignity, resilience, and hope.
