Sanitary Towels Distribution Programme

Since 2012, Tumaini La Maisha Kenya has implemented the Sanitary Towels Distribution Programme to address period poverty and ensure that menstruation does not prevent girls from accessing education.

The programme provides vulnerable school-going girls with a pack containing six sanitary pads every school term, alongside menstrual hygiene management education, puberty and reproductive health awareness, mentorship, and psychosocial support. By working closely with schools and communities, the programme creates supportive environments where girls can manage their menstrual health with dignity and confidence.

Reach and results

Beginning with approximately 420 girls annually, the programme has steadily expanded to reach up to 500 girls each year. Since its inception, an estimated 6,880 girls have benefited from improved access to menstrual hygiene products, increased school attendance, enhanced self-confidence, and greater awareness of menstrual health and hygiene.
